A day trip to Matang Wildlife Centre

Here are some picture of animals in captivity in Matang Wildlife Centre. So far, this centre have 10 enclosure which is use for various type of wild animals. Most of the species are wildlife animals and they are categorised under protected animals. Examples of animals that can be found in this centre are as following picture:




Orang Utan (Sn: Pongo pygmaeus ) is one of the species of genus Pongo and endemic to Borneo. This animal is one of the largest arboreal animal. They have a variety of diets including fruits, leaves and insects. Orang Utan are protected animals and their population in the wild are decreasing due to many factors. Apart from Proboscis monkey and Hornbill, Orang Utan is one of the main attraction in Borneo.



Crocodile is one of the scariest creature and can cause harm to human. They love to do sun bathing and cooling their body in the pond. There are two species of crocodiles kept in captivity in  Matang Wildlife Centre. Estuarine crocodile (Sn: Crocodylus porosus ) is the largest crocodile species. They  usually feed on chicken or fish as their diet. The other species is known as False Gharial (Sn: Tomistoma schlegelii ). This species have a long thin snout and their main diet is fish.
